Economy

Trade in goods between India and Monaco takes place in the following areas:

• more than a third of exports to India come from the manufacture of plastic and non-metallic products, and almost 25% from the manufacture of transport equipment
• almost 40% of imports from India come from the textile and clothing industry, and nearly 30% from the manufacture of machines and equipment

Summer 2014: Pinault Exhibition at the Grimaldi Forum & Palais Princier

 

The Grimaldi Forum devoted its summer exhibition, ArtLovers, to the private contemporary art collection of a French businessman, François Pinault, founder of the world's second largest luxury goods company, the Kering Grouo.  A work by Indian artist Subodh Gupta was on show in this exhibition.

Similarly, several large works by Gupta were on display at the Prince's Palace.

Summer 2007:  Kapoor gives the Place du Casino a new look

 

On 10 July 2007, H.S.H. Prince Albert II inaugurated a work by Indian artist Anish Kapoor, in the Place du Casino, "a mirror that turns the world upside down".

Created in 1999, the Sky Mirror is a concave stainless steel mirror measuring 2.50m in diameter, which "turns the world upside down and gives the illusion, for a moment, of bringing the sky closer to Man".

Princess Charlene Foundation

 

In India, a programme "SwimNSurvive", managed by the Rashtriya Life Saving Society India (RLSSI), has already been implemented in three States.

The Foundation funds a fourth programme in the State of Maharashtra in the west of the country.  2,060 children aged 5 to 14 from slums and the poorest areas of the city of Pune benefitted from swimming lessons until 31 March 2015.

A portable swimming pool was installed in early July, when classes recommenced, in a district with no facilities. 

In India, 106,000 deaths from drowning were registered in 2012, according to the Indian Ministry of Statistics, 80% of which related to children aged under 18.

Monaco Aide et Présence  (MAP) 

SOUTHERN INDIA

 

MAP has been present in Southern India since 1981. During a visit to "The Orphanage of the Brothers of St. Michael” in Coimbatore, Father Fabrice Gallo showed us children living in insalubrious buildings and untenable conditions.

In the region, the orphans have very little support from society. MAP is working to improve living conditions significantly.

NORTHERN INDIA

 

After meeting Paul Raj in 1992, MAP decided to help in Northern India. In 1995, the Orphanage “Peter and Paul“ was opened in Phulbani, approximately 155 miles from Calcutta.

The Paul Raj could offer around 200 children a good education, good health and healthy food. But building it was only the first step...

Over time, the orphanage has been fitted out and equipped – with beds and mattresses, classroom desks and benches, mosquito nets to limit malaria epidemics, sewing machines for teaching sewing skills, etc...
